Uncommon Commentary #166; or, Posting #200!

Tommy Vietor, spokesman of President Obombast's "National" Security Council, said over the weekend that Gaddafi has "lost" his legitimacy to rule; Obombast himself said the same in late February.  I'd like to know just how these two think that Gaddafi, who took power in a military coup, acquired legitimacy to rule.
