It's often noted that the Maya had an advanced civilization "while Europe languished in the [so-called] Dark Ages." Why is it never noted that high civilizations flourished in Europe before the Mayan culture even existed?

"Not at" Albright: my name for brownskirt [q.v.] Madeleine Albright
adultlescent: someone who's reached physical maturity, yet still behaves like a libidinous teenager
American rugby: a more apt name for "football," which game involves the foot only if one's position is that of either kicker or punter
APPA of 2009: the American Pork and Payoff Act of 2009 (known officially as the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009, unofficially as the "Stimulus")
brownskirt: by analogy with "brownshirt," a particularly militant feminist
Deflatriots: the only NFL franchise ever to be caught cheating
deprecession (from "depression" and "recession," with a play on "deep recession"): the economic downturn that began in the year that Reid and Pilosi (see below) took over the Congress
Dud: the surname of a late Usan (see below) senator from Connecticut
dumbbelle (or dumb belle): a beautiful but stupid woman or girl
Emperor Nerobama: the name that I used for President Obama when he behaved as a tyrant and an enemy of Christianity
Gestapobama: the branch of US government that enforced the dictates of Obama's Evil—I mean, Oval—Office
goron: someone who believes in Al Gore's pseudo-science no matter what most real climatologists say about his outlandish pronouncements
greenshirt: by analogy with "blackshirt" and "brownshirt," an ecological thug
Hyperbowle (from "Superbowl" and "hyperbole"): an absurdly overrated athletic contest, which is viewed in places like Borneo and Svalbard by people who have hardly any knowledge of how the game is played
igno-rant: the expressal of an uninformed and obnoxious opinion
Kuwait War: my name for the 1991 clash between coalition forces and Iraq, which is usually known as the "Persian Gulf War" or simply as the "Gulf War," even though it had very little to do with the Persian Gulf
Malarkey: the surname of a Usan (see below) politician from Massachusetts
Michael Mooron: an obnoxious film-maker who seemingly always wears a cap indoors, perhaps to hide a lobotomy scar
MisGovern: the surname of the 1972 Democratic nominee for the US presidency
nutwork: a more appropos word than "network" to describe MSNBC
Obama Nation (with an intentional pun on "abomination"): another name for the USA from 2009 to 2017
ObamaCareless: the US medical system after being deformed—I mean, reformed—by the Democrats
Obomba the Bungle Boy (after “Bomba the Jungle Boy”, a protagonist of 1940’s films): my newest nickname for Barack Obama, which I used for him when his administration demonstrated its apparent inability to do anything correctly
Pilosi: the surname of a Usan (v.i) politician (note: "pilosi" are hairy hobgoblins)
pinkshirt: by analogy with "brownshirt" and "blackshirt," a militant "Gay-rights activist"
pop tart: a sexually immoral female celebrity
President Obombast: the name that I used for President Obama when he used rhetoric to mislead rather than to lead
President Yo'Mama: the name that I used for President Obama when he behaved like either a Black Panther or a pseudo tough guy
Press Gang: news-media thugs
purpleshirt: by analogy with "brownshirt" and "blackshirt," one of Big Labor's thugs (see Uncommon Commentary #171)
Putrid: the surname of the Russian president
quackpot: from "quack" and "crackpot," a pseudo-scientist like Paul Ehrlich, all of whose apocalyptic ecological predictions have proved laughably wrong
retroversive: a term to replace "conservative" (which literally means "preserving things as they are")
smutcom: one of Hollywood's typically dirty situation comedies from the late 1980's to the present
stupidiot: a designation for someone who is so stupid or idiotic that neither word alone suffices
Tedward: the first name of a late US Senator from Massachusetts
Totalitarianism Lite: "Political Correctness"
trashion: a trashy fashion, such as is worn by a pop tart (q.v.)
Tree Stooges: see "goron"
Us- or Usa-: a combining term (see "Usa")
Usa (pronounced YOO-suh): a new name for the USA
Usan (pronounced YOO-suhn): a noun meaning "someone from the Usa (see above)," or the corresponding adjectival form
Weathergate: a superior name for "Climategate"
Wrong: surname of a man whom Obama for 20 years described as his "spiritual mentor," until "discovering" him to be a ranting paranoiac who hates Whites, Jews, and the very country whose highest office Obama then held
Yankanuck (from "Yank" and "Canuck"): someone who is both a Usan (see above) and a Canadian national
